Argumentum Ad Logicam, Non Ad Hominem

January 23, 2021

Civilization is not just about cities, but also what allows cities to exist, civilized behaviors. This civilization is now expanding in the solar system, after starting to master biology and thermonuclear systems… And this world civilization is endowed with way too many people, considering the present state of science and technology… inviting catastrophe. So we need to improve science and technology, and that means new and better ideas from the most unexpected dimensions we did not suspect to exist… even a short while ago.

THUS, Want to improve civilization? We should learn to focus debates on ideas, not individuals. Argumentum Ad Logicam, Non Ad Hominem… to logic, not to the person…. to coin a really new Latin aphorism. Who said the Greco-Roman culture was dead [1]? AT THE IDEAS, NOT THE PERSON (I studied Latin six years, in Africa, of all places!)

Debate the idea, don’t debate the sex life, skin color, gender, age, accent, language, religion, national or ethnic origin of the one proffering it. Roman lawyers actually used the legal principle: non quis sed quid… not who but what…

I have lived in many cultures. I have talked for years with people who didn’t know how to read and write. But I have never seen so many primitives as recently. A friend who is a doctor, scared of COVID (!) retired precipitously. He told me, in writing (!) that he would need a lawyer’s oversight if he were to talk to me about COVID. No less! Debate is that scary for the new primitives. They need a lawyer around to exchange not just general ideas, which can easily offend the thin skinned, but even scientific ideas!

In Africa, below the deep shade of thickly leaved trees, I would exchange freely about the deepest subjects with authentic people. But now many of prominent ones, from the elite, tell us we are not worthy of any mental exchange. There is just one truth, one reality, one set of facts, and any deviation from those is versing in “conspiracy theory”. It does not matter if one day doctor Fauci is against travel bans, and the moth after that, for them. Or if doctor Fauci is adamantly against masks, for excellent reasons, before being stridently for them, three months later (thus causing an explosion of the pandemic). Doctor Fauci is the establishment, and thus the only reality worth having.

Amusingly, China, which caused the pandemic, was much better at evaluating and taking effective countermeasures. In China, individuals who have engaged in significant corruption get condemned to death. It probably helped to think more clearly about the pandemic. Europe could not think, of course. The most obvious fact being that Europe sent the manufacture of much of everything important to China, and thus it found itself paralyzed by its own deindustrialization. An example; thirty years ago, Sanofi-Pasteur developed the first mRNA vaccine, but the oily enveloppes were badly tolerated, and the French company dropped the development. When COVID appeared, Sanofi-Pasteur was using obsolete technology, and its vaccine failed. Meanwhile, thankfully, in the oval office of the White House, a French businessman told a stunned president Trump, that his US company, Moderna, could develop a modern vaccine in three months, using the mRNA tech Sanofi-Pasteur had pioneered.

We need to delve with problems, and possible solutions.

The problems are scientific and technological, but they can only be guided by higher wisdom. Take controlled thermonuclear fusion, which make the star shine: we absolutely need it, wisdom says. So wisdom will urge to implement it. How? Spending. For example high temperature superconducting magnets can be made. They would improve considerably thermonuclear reactors (by making them much more compact). So deploy such a project. ITER does not use high temp superconductors so is much more bulky). Wisdom can guide: establishing a colony on Ceres is a no-brainer, for example.

Ah, and why to go hysterical with science and technology? Because that’s the humane way out, and there is no other. This is what wisdom shows. The old fashion way, killing nearly everybody and collapsing civilization, can be avoided at this point.

So why should we go another way? In recent years, the supposedly most intelligent in the West have howled to the sky that a particular individual, an industrialist naturally voted in to solve the problem of de-industrialization, was the cause of everything bad. Instead Trump finished his presidency by financing three ultra-effective, ultramodern vaccines (Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, Astrazeneca-Oxford), making a new medical technology, which should be very effective against cancer, available to the world. In ten months…

Believing that one scapegoat caused the problems he was called to solve is low intelligence. The obsession with one scapegoat was most satisfying to those keen to satisfy the basic instincts which animated our predecessors, 200 million years ago. It also prevented those supposedly most intelligent people and institutions to think about the real problems, and the solutions they called for. Even more perniciously, it enure the intelligentsia to repeating the grotesque lies the establishment served them with relish. The lowering of intelligence is how many civilizations went down.

Invent or die. Now, more than ever. (Uxmal Maya, Mexico.) Southern Mayan civilization collapsed in a couple of decades after 820 CE, when We The People realized that they had been had by the “Holly Lords”, namely that none of the solutions they embraced (construction programs, war against other cities, increased plutocracy) worked. Thus We The People rose in anger, and war became not just an inter-city affair, but internal to cities too. After nearly everybody died, Mayan civilization would go as a shadow of its former self. Even before the Spaniards showed up, those who had traded with them showed up, carrying an arsenal of Afro-Eurasiatic diseases Smallpox would arrive later, carried by a single black Conquistador. In some places, such as Hispaniola, 100% of the population swiftly died, to Columbus’ dismay.

Have we become like the Maya, enthralled and submitted to Holly Lords, those we view as the elected politicians? Elected they are, indeed, but elected by whom? Nancy Pelosi, daughter of Baltimore mayor D’Alesandro, what is the difference with elected king Clovis, son of elected king Childeric (also a Roman “imperator”). OK, maybe Vladimir Putin has been elected by the KGB/FSB, the Russian equivalent of the FBI… So Putin was elected by the ultimate security agency of Russia… and Russia was in need of security at the time, clearly. But who elected Joe Biden? Joe brandished the average small contribution to his campaign The problem with elected officials is that it is in their best interest to put appearances first and reality, somewhere else… where it can be leveraged to further their career and, or power.

There is a way out of this, by increasing other dimensions of People Power. What do we need professional politicians for?

Why do we farm out our power to the most power hungry and money greedy individuals who, while shutting down debate, and because they shut, not to say shit down, debate, believe that they know better than anybody else? And we call that democratic?

Why do we farm out our minds to plutocratically owned media, be they TV, Internet, or the ironically called “free press”? Right we have no choice. But many, especially on the left, seem unaware that they are getting their data and wisdom from the most powerful holly lords the world has ever known.

Greco-Roman civilization, when it was democratic, had severe limits on the duration of political mandates. Athens, at her civilizational peak, had Direct Democracy: citizens voted the laws governing them, directly.

Thus citizens had to be informed as well as possible: that was ensured by two pillars of democracy, isegoria and parrhesia. The former ensured equal right of speech in any public assembly. The latter, the candor of speech. Right now, we have the exact opposite: the media is owned, or controlled by hyper wealthy families and only them. It was hoped that the Internet would enable We The People to escape the censorship of the few.

But, the opposite has happened: yesterday a cartoon of Uncle Joe (Stalin) was censored on Facebook, a (nonpolitical) friend discovered, to his dismay (he got an official warning). Stalin’s head had been replaced by Biden’s, and “Stalin” (the man of steel) by “Stealin”. When a regime cannot tolerate a joke, it has versed in advanced intellectual fascism.

Nearly Direct Democracy was used by Republican Rome for centuries.  Republican Rome also limited family wealth absolutely… Enforcing that law brought a succession of civil wars engineered by the “Optimates” (the “Best”). The crisis was bracketed by the assassination of the leaders of the populists, the Populares leaders, Tiberius Gracchus in 133 BCE, and Julius Caesar in 44 BCE. Greek city-states also considered

Hatred Will Unify the Country. Seems to Be the Idea.

January 23, 2021

Hatred will unify the country, because all the people will hate each other, and they will have this in common… At least such seems to be the idea of the plutocratic establishment. As we will see, not really a new idea, but probably the oldest social manipulation technique. Recently CNN claimed all Trump voters, 75 millions of them were KKK, Nazis… The ridiculous and damaging impeachment is rolling on… Unification by hatred seems to be the deepest idea of the Deep Global Plutocracy and its media, are capable of… After pretending for more than 4 years that Trump was elected by Putin (whereas it is Obama who let Putin invade Ukraine, and Trump who provided the anti-tank weapons to stop Putin). Unification through hatred works: history is full of such examples. A particular case is scapegoatism. A French philosopher, Girard, made a whole glorious career at Stanford and the French Academy simply for describing “scapegoatism” as significant human driver… I go the whole hog: hatred is the ultimate driver…

John Thomas to Patrice Ayme Hatred will destroy the US if people aren’t careful. There’s too much of it on both sides, but it’s a bigger problem on the right because much of it is driven by false beliefs to which people have become emotionally and irrationally attached. Q-Anon conspiracy theories, held mostly on the right, provide a good example.

@ John Thomas: Indeed. Hatred could indeed destroy the USA, because that’s the way tribalism works. Tribalism is all about hatred, and reciprocally. Killing other tribes is the next best thing after trading with them. It kept the planet in balance in the last 2 million years. At some point a bit more than a million years ago, there were at least 14 species of hominids in East Africa. One of them exterminated all the others. And here we are.
In the Late Roman empire, depending whether people were Christians, “Reds”, “Whites”,”Greens”, “Blues”, there was much passion and hatred to be had. “Men in Black” (hedonistic, thieving, drunk gangs of monks) roamed and physically destroyed everything they could loot in their way.

HATRED & JEALOUSY… Charles Le Brun, 1609-1690… Etching in the crayon Credit: Wellcome Library, London. Wellcome Images images@wellcome.ac.uk http://wellcomeimages.org A face expressing hatred or jealousy.

THUS, instead of reinstituting repairing the Republic, We The People were at each other’s throats, depending upon their color allegiance… and the Plutocrats laughed all the way to the banks.
This was a conspiracy of the owners of Roman civilization, or, rather, it was the work of several conspiracies at work simultaneously, entangled with each other, with different tribal origins (the ancient plutocratic lineage, the army, the Franks, the Goths, the Huns, Alans, Vandals, Burgonds, numerous Christian factions, etc…)
The same is at work now in the USA. Plutocrats gave Biden more than 1.6 billion dollars for his presidential run. Those plutocrats are not on the side of We The People, they are on the side of hatred, hatred of We The People against We The People, because hatred of the People against the People is how plutocrats govern. So they give money, or other services, on both sides, to make sure the hatred augments.

White supremacist plutocrats decrying white supremacy is a vaccination against the very hatred they inoculate the world with. This is why some of the worst offenders, individuals who know how to lay low but who, actually made hundreds of billions of dollars in ways which should be illegal (but are not), contributed to Biden presidential run.
Or as the Maya put it, the holly Lords. When We The Maya realized they had been had, they killed the holly Lords, but it was too late…

John Thomas to Patrice Ayme You lost me in the fourth paragraph. It seems to me that you are the one who has fallen for conspiracy theories. I agree that there are serious problems with the influence of moneyed interests in the US, but that problem is no less serious on the Republican side than the Democrat side.

Patrice Ayme to John Thomas: History is the history of conspiracies and we historians make theories about said conspiracies. I never said I had a tribal obsession feeling as if I belonged to right/left/Republican/Democrat… What is the “right” anyway? A half naked guy with horns and a raccoon tail? The woman who was an Air Force 14 years veteran deliberately shot fatally through the neck?

Virgil wrote:”Love conquers all!” An amusing case of dissemblance. Virgil was the official poet of a bloody tyrant, Augustus, who didn’t not just kill hundreds of thousands to get to power, but killed some of his own relatives who were still children (in particular Caesarion, the only son of Caesar and also son of Cleopatra)… and in the end the patron of Virgil confiscated the Republic… One could say with Virgil’s assistance, because Virgil painted Augustus’ hatred with a thick layer of “love”. It was not Augustus’ legions which had conquered Rome, it was his… love. Look at what they did, not at the BS they tried to put you to sleep with.
