Grumpy old men can afford to say it as it is… Biden surged in polls recently, and in no small measure in my opinion by declaring:”I am an old guy, but I know how to get things done. My predecessor wanted to build infrastructure. But these were just words. I did it.” This is true, and therefore strong. (The democratic Congress blocked Trump, not Biden.). By flaunting that he was a better Trump than Trump himself, Biden thus acknowledged something drastic: Biden extended Trump’s policies. On some of the most controversial points, anti-China, nationalistic, anti-globalist, high tech subsidies, Biden went where Trump wanted to go. Biden even opened the north slope of Alaska for oil exploitation… something Trump wanted to do but couldn’t do lest ecologists would pretend to burn themselves alive on the White House lawn.
The point is this: it’s hypocritical, and a lie, to claim Biden as the anti-Trump. As long as Biden did this, he lost in public opinion.
Where Biden got it right, and where he was the most significant, and effective, he extended Trump’s policies (once considered crazy). The electorate approved Biden’s sudden admission if this. One of the strongest arguments for Trump has been his authenticity: crazy but saying it as he felt it is. Now that Biden does the same, he wins appreciation too…
Following Trump and now Biden, the world has turned against China, as shown by the evolution of Foreign Direct Investment in China:
Notice the severity of the downturn in Chinese FDI under Biden. As Biden would say, Trump barks, but I get things done!
And why does the electorate loves authenticity suddenly? Because authenticity is the way to truth,,, And only truth will save us…
